Pre-Arrival in Santiago (Optional / Not Included)

Before your journey into Patagonia begins, all international and domestic flights route through Santiago. While this itinerary officially starts upon your arrival in Balmaceda, we are happy to assist with any logistics or arrangements you may need in Santiago prior to Day 1.

Whether it is a private airport transfer, a curated city tour, a vineyard experience, or simply a seamless overnight stay, our team at Santiago Around can coordinate everything to make your arrival smooth and enjoyable.

Day 1 – Arrival in Patagonia & First Explorations in Cerro Castillo

Activity:
Scenic arrival & gentle walks

Description:
Private reception at Balmaceda Airport and transfer to Villa Cerro Castillo, following a dramatic route of winding rivers, native forests, and the jagged skyline of the Andes.
Upon arrival, enjoy a relaxed walk around the refuge, which sits within a private expanse of native forest featuring waterfalls, quiet trails, and small hilltops with wide-open views toward the surrounding glaciers. Settle into the quiet pace of life in this remarkable mountain valley.

Overnight:
Private mountain refuge in Cerro Castillo.

Day 2 – Horseback Riding in Puerto Ibáñez & Patagonian Lamb Asado

Activity:
Horseback ride + countryside experience

Description:
Morning transfer to Puerto Ibáñez for a memorable horseback ride across open pampas, rolling hills, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking Lake General Carrera and Ibañez river.
Return in the afternoon for a traditional Patagonian lamb asado, slow-cooked over an open fire and enjoyed with a glass of Chilean wine, a warm and authentic celebration of local culture.

Day 3 – Marble Caves & Exploradores Valley

Navigation + glacier valley exploration

Description:
Early morning take a scenic transfer to Puerto Río Tranquilo, one of the signature destinations of the Carretera Austral. Start the day with a boat or kayak navigation to the world-famous Marble Caves, where the swirling rock formations and turquoise waters create an unforgettable spectacle.
In the afternoon, travel into the Exploradores Valley to approach its impressive glacier, framed by granite peaks, dense temperate rainforest, and powerful natural scenery.

Overnight:
Puerto Río Tranquilo.

Day 4 – Full-Day Expedition to Laguna San Rafael

Navigation through Patagonian fjords

Description:
Full-day journey to Laguna San Rafael, one of Patagonia’s most iconic glacial environments.
Navigate through fjords and channels until reaching the immense San Rafael Glacier, watching drifting icebergs and experiencing the deep silence of this remote corner of Chile.
Lunch and warm drinks included aboard the vessel.

Day 5 – Scenic Transfer to the Baker River & Rafting

Travel through the Carretera Austral + rafting

Description:
Morning departure south toward the Baker River, passing forests, lakes, canyons, and the dramatic landscapes typical of the Patagonia region.
Upon arrival, enjoy an exciting rafting experience on the Baker’s powerful turquoise waters, followed by a visit to the famous Confluence, where the Baker and Neff rivers meet in a striking blend of colors.

Day 6 – Patagonia National Park

Hiking & wildlife observation

Description:
Full-day excursion to Patagonia National Park, a conservation landmark created by Tompkins Conservation.
Hike through vast grasslands, rolling hills, wetlands, and river valleys while observing guanacos, foxes, condors, and possibly pumas in their natural habitat.
A powerful experience that showcases one of the most ambitious rewilding projects in the world.
Explore the interactive Museum in Parque Patagonia to discover the region's cultural history and the inspiring legacy of ecosystem restoration and conservation.

Day 7 – Relaxed Day on the Baker (Optional Fly Fishing)

Rest, photography & optional activities

Description:
A flexible day to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the Baker River region.
Choose between relaxing at the lodge, short walks, photography sessions, or an optional fly-fishing outing in untouched river pools and channels.
An ideal moment to reconnect with nature before the journey’s conclusion.

Day 8 – Return to Balmaceda
