Pre-Arrival in Santiago (Optional / Not Included)

Before your journey into Patagonia begins, all international and domestic flights route through Santiago. While this itinerary officially starts upon your arrival in Balmaceda, we are happy to assist with any logistics or arrangements you may need in Santiago prior to Day 1.

Whether it is a private airport transfer, a curated city tour, a vineyard experience, or simply a seamless overnight stay, our team at Santiago Around can coordinate everything to make your arrival smooth and enjoyable.

Day 1 – Arrival in Patagonia & First Explorations in Puerto Natales

Activity:
Arrival, orientation & gentle walks

Description:
Private reception at the airport and transfer to Puerto Natales, the gateway to Torres del Paine. Upon arrival, enjoy a relaxed walk through the historic center and along the waterfront, with views over the Ăšltima Esperanza fjord. Time to settle in, review logistics for the trek, and adjust to the Patagonian rhythm before the adventure begins.

Day 2 – W Trek | Grey Glacier

Scenic transfer + hike to Grey Glacier
Hiking distance: ~11 km / 6.8 mi
Estimated hiking time: 4–5 hours

Description:
Morning transfer from Puerto Natales to Torres del Paine National Park, crossing open Patagonian steppe and lake country.
Begin the W Trek with a scenic hike toward Grey Glacier, following the shores of Lake Grey and passing hanging bridges with views over floating icebergs and the immense Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

A powerful introduction to the scale and raw beauty of Torres del Paine.

Overnight:
Refugio Grey or Refugio Paine Grande (depending on availability).

Day 3 – W Trek | French Valley

Full trekking day – Valle Francés
Hiking distance: ~18 km / 11 mi
Estimated hiking time: 6–7 hours

Description:
Cross Lake Pehoé by catamaran (if staying at Paine Grande) and continue on foot into the legendary French Valley.
Hike through lenga forests toward panoramic viewpoints overlooking hanging glaciers, granite spires, and avalanches cascading down the valley walls.

This is one of the most dramatic and visually rewarding days of the W Trek.

Overnight:
Refugio Cuernos or Refugio Francés.

Day 4 – W Trek | Lakes & Horns of Paine

Trekking along Lake Nordenskjöld
Hiking distance: ~13 km / 8 mi
Estimated hiking time: 4–5 hours

Description:
A slightly shorter but stunning day, hiking along the turquoise waters of Lake Nordenskjöld, with constant views of the Cuernos del Paine rising sharply above the trail.
This section offers a perfect balance between effort and scenery, allowing time to enjoy the landscape and recover energy for the final day.‍

Refugio Chileno or Refugio Central.

Day 5 – W Trek | Base Torres del Paine

Sunrise or early-morning hike to Base Torres
Hiking distance: ~18 km / 11 mi (round trip)
Estimated hiking time: 7–8 hours

Description:
Early start for the highlight of the entire trek: the ascent to the Base of the Towers.
Hike through the Ascencio Valley, lenga forests, and a final rocky moraine leading to the iconic viewpoint beneath the three granite towers.

Time to enjoy the view, rest, and absorb one of Patagonia’s most legendary landscapes before descending.

Day 6 – W Trek | Exit the Park & Return to Puerto Natales

Short hike + scenic transfer
Hiking distance: ~7 km / 4.3 mi

Description:
Final easy hike out of the park, followed by a private transfer back to Puerto Natales.
Arrival in the afternoon, free time to rest, enjoy a hot shower, celebrate the accomplishment, and dine at one of the town’s excellent restaurants.

Day 7 – Rest & Recovery in Puerto Natales

Description:
A well-earned rest day after the trek. Options include spa treatments, massage, gentle walks along the waterfront, cafés, and time to simply enjoy the Patagonian atmosphere. A perfect balance between adventure and recovery.

Day 8 – Patagonian Experience Day

Cultural or wildlife experience

Description:
Choose between curated Patagonian experiences:

  • Horseback riding on a traditional estancia through open landscapes, or

  • Puma tracking with expert wildlife guides in the Patagonian steppe.

The day concludes with a traditional cordero al palo, slow-roasted Patagonian lamb, offering an authentic cultural farewell to the region.

Day 9 – Departure
