Rising in a near-perfect snow-capped cone above Lake Llanquihue, Osorno Volcano is the defining silhouette of Chile's Lake District. Its slopes offer hiking trails, a small ski area, and sweeping viewpoints over the lake and surrounding volcanoes, making it one of the region's most recognizable landmarks.
Inside Vicente Pérez Rosales, Chile's oldest national park, the Petrohué River crashes through channels of dark volcanic rock in a series of turquoise rapids and waterfalls. Short forest trails lead to multiple viewpoints, with Osorno Volcano looming directly behind the falls on clear days — one of the most photographed scenes in the Lake District.
Fed by glacial meltwater, Lake Todos los Santos glows an extraordinary emerald green beneath dense native forest and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes. Often called Chile's most beautiful lake, it remains largely untouched by development, reached only by boat, offering a rare sense of pure Patagonian wilderness.
Frutillar is one of Chile's most photogenic lakeside towns, its waterfront lined with immaculately preserved German colonial homes, rose gardens and cafés serving kuchen and strudel. The crown jewel is Teatro del Lago, a striking concert hall built directly over Lake Llanquihue, framed by views of Osorno Volcano across the water.

Begin at the Petrohué Waterfalls, where turquoise rapids thunder over dark volcanic rock with Osorno Volcano rising directly behind them. Continue to a mountainside viewpoint on the volcano's flanks for sweeping panoramas across Lake Llanquihue, then head deeper into the park for a boat crossing on Lake Todos los Santos, also known as Lago Esmeralda for its emerald-green water framed by dense native forest and the Andes.
